If you divide a square in half again and again, you'll get an infinitely smaller and smaller shape. In geometry, it’s a beautiful spiral, and it occurs naturally in nature.
It’s lovely on paper or in flowers, but people can’t be divided in half; nor can families. If you infinitely cut a person, or a family in half, you’ll destroy the very person you’re trying to save.
Divorce is a series of divisions. One after another. A split here, a cut there. It feels like an endless dance of this is mine, that’s yours, and over there?— that once was ours. No matter the reasons for the divorce, after a while you’re left feeling tiny, a small part of what was once a larger whole.
But as humans, every day that we wake up, we’re the sum of the days before. If the path through divorce is a series of divisions the path after is a series of additions—a reversal of the spiral. 1+1 =2, 2+1=3, 3+2=5, 5+3=8, and on.
